ENG 100 Assignment #3: Film-Based Argument Due: Draft #2 posted to blog by 11:59pm on 5/7/17 Survivor In the film, Survivor, the screenwriter Philip Shelby writes about Kate Abbott’s attempts to prove her innocence while stopping a terrorist attack. Abbott is a Foreign Service officer who learns of a plot that a sniper will shoot a gas bomb in Times Square on New Years’ Eve at the drop of the ball and take millions of innocent lives. The bomb was made by an immigrant that entered the country illegally. This movie sparked the argument behind this writing. Should America allow immigrants into the country? America should allow immigrants to enter the country because immigrants add to the culture’s diversity, which is one of the strongest hallmarks of the country’s society. America should allow immigrants into the country because immigrants add to the education system. Diversity is very important throughout our lives. Beginning with early education. As Jean Snell stated in an article written by greatschools staff, she states, “There is a richness that comes from students working side by side with others who are not of the same cookie-cutter mode.” I personally think learning comes from experiences. I grow up in West Africa, Liberia. I was in a way like those prisoners that were chinned to the wall and could only see the shadows. The only type of diversity I knew was my parents speaking two different languages. That was my world and that was all I knew. I had an Idea about America but it isn’t at all what I thought it was. If someone had come to me while I was still in Africa and told me there were homeless people in America I would not have believed them.
