ENG 100 Assignment #3: Film-Based Argument Due: Draft #1 posted to blog by 11:59pm on 3/23/17 Survivor In the film, Survivor, the screenwriter Philip Shelby writes about Kate Abbott’s trying to prove her innocence while stopping terrorist attack. Abbott is a Foreign Service officer who learns of a plot that a sniper will shoot a gas bomb in Time square on New Years’ Eve at the drop of the ball and take millions of innocent lives. Can American governmental ban on Muslims from specific countries justify recent terroristic attacks across the world? In the film Survivor screenwriter Shelby really allowed viewers to see how easily terrorist can slip through the cracks and enter in the U.S. Emil Balan for instance was able to get his hands on a Visa under a different name. Abbott had suspicions about Balan but the fact that his wife died while waiting to come to America to seek medical treatment made the case a tricky one. Abbott was trying to do her job to the best of her ability, but they had an inside man. Terrorist are not just found in other countries, there are so many cases just here in the U.S. alone that are disturbing. A common definition of terrorism is the systematic use or threatened use of Violence in order to intimidate a population or government and thereby affect political, religious, or ideological change. Take the case of the Charleston Church shooting “Dylann Roof, 21, allegedly entered the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church during a weekly Bible study meeting and opened around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Eight people were found dead at the scene, police said. Two others were transported to a hospital, where one later died.” (Kelly Chen). They were targeted because of their skin color. He went in and sat through the bible study for a while. He pretty much gained their trusts and then decided to take their lives with a gun that was given to him by his father as a birthday gift. Another recent case was the Orlando, Florida Nightclub shooting “The attacker, Identified by law enforcement officials as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old who was born in New York, turned what had been a celebratory night of dancing to salsa and merengue music at the crowded Pulse nightclub into a panicked scene of unimaginable slaughter, the floors slicked with blood, the dead and injured piled atop one another. Terrified people poured onto the darkened streets of the surrounding neighborhood, some carried wounded victims to safety, and police vehicles were pressed into service as makeshift ambulances to rush people to hospitals.”(Lizette Alvarez and Richard Perez-pena). This was deemed the worst terroristic act on America soil since 9/11, and the deadliest on gay target in the history of the nation. The have been countless of terroristic acts on the American soil that were carried out by people that have no Muslims lies. Can recent terroristic attacks across the world justify an American governmental ban on Muslims from specific countries? I personally don’t think it justify the Muslims ban. I think there are a lot of people living in the U.S. right now that are capable of horrible crimes. Like the ones stated above. I think there should be something done to prevent terrorist from reaching American soil. I don’t think this is the way to go about it though. A refugee fleeing a war torn country will be turn down due to where they were born. This is a country that states you have the freedom of religion. The U.S. putting a ban on only Muslims countries is creating segregation. There are people from those countries that left their loved ones behind. It’s just a really sad situation for those that doing all the right thing. As an immigrant from a war torn country I am truly sadden by the Muslim ban.

I Like how you said, "There are people from those countries that left their loved ones behind. It’s just a really sad situation for those that doing all the right thing. As an immigrant from a war torn country I am truly sadden by the Muslim ban." I like how you said this because I agree, I do not think people should be banned just because they're Muslim. Everyone is human and should be treated equally.
